We tried to warn them with Captain Marvel, yet they made the mistake of casting a cis-gendered white character as the lead role. Imagine our shock when Captain Marvel tanked in the box office. We could only hope that DC wouldn’t make the same mistake with Joker, but it seems like they’re following in Marvel’s footsteps in making yet another bigoted exclusionary movie – Joker.
The trailer to Joker (2019) attempts to create some sympathy to the main protagonist (or antagonist) of the movie – but they make one fatal mistake. The Joker is a straight white privileged male. How is anyone supposed to relate to a straight white male? It appears to be an origin story of a white man who’s been treated poorly in society (which never happens) and eventually turns into what will soon be a more prominent figure in a series of DC movies.
It’s 2019 though. You’d think a multi-billion dollar entertainment company would be able to come up with a character twist to which many of us could relate. Considering the fact that most of us liberals are either non-white, non-heterosexual, disabled either physically or mentally, possibly on a variety of medications, unemployed, or at the very least, allies to those who are – how can we expect a movie like Joker (2019) to have a shot at succeeding? The Joker portrayed by Jared Leto in Suicide Squad (2016) was obviously transgender and disabled, why can’t the 2019 Joker movie follow suit?
When I saw the trailer for Joker, I almost vomited. Not a single frame of it hinted at the possibility of the Joker being a transgender person of color. It’s as if no one cares about diversity anymore. I’m on week two of therapy and there’s no sign of it getting better. I don’t know what to do.

If these corporations don’t shape up and meet the demands of the reasonable left, they will be met with protests, boycotts and could even be met with riots. Joker (2019) needs to be re-shot and re-edited to include a transgender lead role otherwise they will lose billions in the long run. This is why we need higher taxes. Diversity is our strength.
