Joe Biden is facing criticism from both sides of the aisle after boldly declaring that poor children can be just as intelligent and talented as white ones.
White nationalist Trump supporters were naturally upset with the former Vice President for challenging the myth that there are poor white people living in America. But as previously pointed out by Bernie Sanders, white people have no idea what it’s actually like to be poor.
Nor did Biden’s words sit well with the majority of Democrats, who argued that implying racial minorities are capable of intelligent thought is a slippery slope towards encouraging them to think independently, which would have drastic consequences for the 2020 presidential election.
“The idea that minorities should be free to think and vote for themselves is a Republican talking point,” scoffed fellow candidate Kamala Harris. “I’m not surprised to hear such racist rhetoric coming from Joe.”
Former President Barack Obama also weighed in, expressing the need “to remain true to our values and principles”.
The only way we are going to be able to secure the existence of our Party and a future for minority children is if people of color are able to trust in the gentle, paternalistic guidance of their Democratic overlords.
